Aerospace Industries

WHERE SKY IS THE LIMIT

Aerospace industries is one of the most emerging industries in the world. When it collaborates with the 3D printing it gives more tremendous results with the best of the outcomes. As 3D printing gives you the ability to make the best of the part without any use of die and molding the part cost can reduce with the remarkable accuracy and precision as well as no need to do the tooling of the parts.

Benefits of 3D Printing
  • Directly from PC CAD design to the Implementable part.

  • Saving of the Valuable time and tooling cost in every part.

  • Directly implemented to wind tunnel test.

  • Actual size with the greater accuracy.

  • Ultem Compatibility.

  • Lightweight and easy to operate design.

3D Printing Implementation

Wind tunnel test using functional 3D print drone

A wind tunnel is a tool used in aerodynamic research to study the effects of air moving past solid objects. A wind tunnel consists of a tubular passage with the object under test mounted in the middle. Air is made to move past the object by a powerful fan system or other means. The test object, often called a wind tunnel model, is instrumented with suitable sensors to measure aerodynamic forces, pressure distribution, or other aerodynamic-related characteristics.

Functional Propeller for the plane for wind tunnel test

A propeller is a type of fan that transmits power by converting rotational motion into thrust. A pressure difference is produced between the forward and rear surfaces of the airfoil-shaped blade, and a fluid (such as air or water) is accelerated behind the blade.

The properties of carbon fibers, such as high stiffness, high tensile strength, low weight, high chemical resistance, high temperature tolerance and low thermal expansion, make them very popular in aerospace, civil engineering, military, and motorsports, along with other competition sports. However, they are relatively expensive when compared with similar fibers, such as glass fibers or plastic fibers.

A turbine blade is the individual component which makes up the turbine section of a gas turbine or steam turbine. The blades are responsible for extracting energy from the high temperature, high pressure gas produced by the combustor. The turbine blades are often the limiting component of gas turbines. To survive in this difficult environment, turbine blades often use exotic materials like superalloys and many different methods of cooling, such as internal air channels, boundary layer cooling, and thermal barrier coatings. Blade fatigue is a major source of failure in steam turbines and gas turbines. Fatigue is caused by the stress induced by vibration and resonance within the operating range of machinery. To protect blades from these high dynamic stresses, friction dampers are used.

ULTEM is an FDM thermoplastic ideal for aerospace, automotive and military applications because of its FST rating, high strength-to-weight ratio and existing certifications. It empowers design and manufacturing engineers to 3D print advanced functional prototypes and production parts.

ULTEM expands the use of 3D printing into applications that demand good thermal and chemical resistance. Advanced applications include functional prototypes, manufacturing tools and low-volume, high-value production parts.
